This weekend was breakforth weekend. A huge Christian conference. I was lucky to be able to attend. Andy took care of Eli and off I went... except there's one problem. Starting on Wednesday I woke up with a headache. Still had it on Thursday and on Friday morning, I had a sore throat and a plugged nose, plus the headache still. Despite resting on Friday before I left for the conference, I still wasn't able to avoid getting sick. Saturday I left the conference early because I felt so horrible. I couldnt sit through a session without sneezing or blowing my nose a million and one times! I went to bed early last night and woke up feeling worse than before!!
Andy was busy with Eli today so I've been able to spend all day in bed and try to get better. However, this evening after resting all day my head hurts, my nose is still plugged, and my body is aching. And even worse because Im pregnant there is really nothing I can do about it. Im hoping and praying that come tomorrow morning Im feeling better because Im back on kid duty!!
So if you have any home remedies that might cure this cold/flu Id love to hear them!!
I'am Karla, he is Andy. We have been married since 2007, and along the way we have had 2 precious little boys. Our lives are crazy, but we wouldn't have it any other way. These are the writings of my journey as a stay at home mom, and along the way Ill show you some DIY projects that I love doing!

Raging War... Kind Of
My husband and I are having a war... of course a war that we're only joking (partially!!) about.
I came home on Saturday morning after getting my hair done and he was in the kitchen re organizing and cleaning! Not bad, Im definitely not complaining... However, he decided that there's no need with our cabinet space that things need to be on the counter. So as he was re organizing everything he put away my jars that I use fairly often. I keep them on the counter for a reason... a few actually. 1) I'm not tall and grabbing a stool every time I want to get down the oatmeal or sugar is a pain, and 2) I use them often enough that it is ideal to have them on the counter. And they dont look that bad either!!
He also decided he was going to re organize my cook books and such, putting them up high. Didn't go over well with me, and after some fighting (more like play fighting/flirting) I won. But when it comes to the jars on the counter, we're still at war. If he's in the kitchen and Ive put them back on the counter, he'll put them up, and then when I come into the kitchen and see they're back up, Ill pull them down.
Here is how he'd like to see the counter
And the cabinet where the bins should go.
This is how I'd like to see it
Now, I personally think it looks a lot nicer with the bins in the corner, and that space filled... What do you think, and seriously how do we come to a compromise on this one?! I think, I do the majority of the cooking so shouldn't it be how I'd like it?

Happy
Eli & I have had a really great day so far! It started at 6:50am when Eli came out of his room and into ours, climbed into bed beside in, and we continued sleeping until 8:15am! Then we woke up, and he played cars while I read my bible and spent some time in devotions! I loved every moment of this morning!
A few weeks back when Andy was taking Eli upstairs to play with some of his cars, Eli told him (seriously, word for word out of no where!!) "Daddy, can we take trains back and get cars?" We bought him a little train set for Christmas (which he never plays with!!) and then he asks to return it and get cars! I was blown away! Finally, this morning when we were playing cars on the floor in front of the train table, I decided to take it apart, pack it up and head off to return it! I called ahead to see if it would be an issue, and although the first employee told me it might be, I spoke to a manager and he said to bring it in. I expected issues when I brought it in, even though I spoke to the manager but it was the easiest thing ever! Being kind goes along way!
Its been a cold week, but we've still found ways to get out and keep busy!! However, Im looking forward to next week when it warms up (even just a bit!)

Midwifery
Andy and I have decided that this time around for baby #2 we'd like things to be very different. I dont know if I ever went into detail how traumatizing my labor & delivery was with Eli, but it was long, hard, and exactly what I didn't want in any way shape or form. Induction, 31 hours, epidural after 25 hours, vacuum attempt, etc. In the end Eli was alright, but the dr was concerned because his heart rate kept dropping. They were at the point where they were going to use forceps, and then start prepping for an emergency c section. Both of which I wanted to avoid, and did.
So this time around we have a midwife. I think there is a lot of misunderstanding about midwives, and how trained they are, as well as prepared.
"A midwife is a person who has successfully completed a midwifery education program that is duly recognized in the country where it is located and that is based on the ICM Essential Competencies for Basic Midwifery Practice and the framework of the ICM Global Standards for Midwifery Education; who has acquired the requisite qualifications to be registered and/or legally licensed to practice midwifery and use the title 'midwife'; and who demonstrates competency in the practice of midwifery."
I am so excited that I was able to find a midwife to take me into her practice, and the best part is she lives just outside of Sherwood Park. The drive to her house take me less than 10 minutes!! Love it!! My appointment with her last week was great! I spent over an hour with her talking, and going over my history, and answering any questions she has about my pregnancy now. She was encouraging, and listened to everything I had to say. Unlike how things are when you go to a dr's office, I didn't feel rushed, and I felt like she actually cared. That doesn't happen too often! My next appointment is in 4 weeks, and she encouraged me to bring both Eli & Andy so that they can be as involved as possible. I love that!
So as of today Iam 13 weeks and 2 days. Slowly but surely we continue on!!

Did you guess this?
I was a tad disappointed, at the lack of comments I had. Thanks Aunty Paula for commenting, (Im pretty sure you already knew didn't you?? ;-) But, I wondered after I posted my post how many people would comment since I did my rant post on people asking about being pregnant. So with that being said... if you read my post, (and didn't comment!!) but wondered if we're counting down the days till my due date.
You are correct. I'am pregnant.
I found out on November 11th, and although we've been trying I was still quite shocked. The very very very faint line on a pregnancy test (or wait multiple tests!!) did finally confirm it for me. And again although we had been trying there are definitely mixed feelings about it all. Feelings of being excited, scared, sad and happy all in one.
I am 13 weeks now, and finally starting to feeling like myself again. The first trimester always brings extreme tiredness, and a very upset stomach. No throwing up, but always an upset stomach. I think I lost more weight in my first trimester because I didn't want to eat, and had no appetite than I have in awhile. There are still days that I feel quite tired (like today, Im exhausted!!) but at least I can eat!
We're also taking a different approach to this pregnancy, as well as labor & delivery. I was able to find a midwife to take me on. The next question I get after I tell people that we have a midwife is, "Will you have a home birth?" No, we probably wont. No decision is final at this point, however because of how complicated and scary our labor & delivery went with Eli, a hospital birth (at the lois hole) seems like it might be the best fit. So it will be all natural, no pain medication. Ive started reading some information about different types of pain coping mechanisms, one like hypnobirthing. Now before you jump all over me because it was the word hypno in it, let me clarify your not actually hypnotized, its all about focusing on your breathing, and going to a place where you can relax, and cope with the pain. Im also hoping this time around to hire a doula, and possibly have a water birth. We'll see...
Mid February is when I have my ultrasound booked for 19 weeks, and we hope to find out what the baby is. I feel like a girl, however Im expecting a boy. Either way, I dont care if its a boy or a girl, Ill be happy to have a healthy baby! Eli is convinced when you ask him "Is mommy having a girl or a boy baby?" He said, "Grill baby." as in girl baby. But he is consistent and says the same thing each time.
I also had my first appointment with my midwife last week, but Im going to save that for another post.

Teasing
On Saturday morning I decided to make pancakes for us. Because I was in a bit of a rush I had Andy & Eli sit down and start eating while I finished cooking the rest of the pancakes.
As I was standing at the counter, Eli said to me "Mommy, did you toot?" I replied, "Umm, no, I didnt toot." He said "Yes you did mom!!" I laughed and said, "No I didnt, Eli." He said, "Yah you did mom, you did!!" I turned around and looked at him smiling and then he said to me, "Im just teasing you Mommy!!!" And then he started laughing! And then of course Andy and I also burst out laughing as well!
Its fun to see at 2.5, the type of personality and sense of humor our little boy has!

Organizing, Organizing, Organizing
The past few days Ive been going crazy getting rid of unnecessary "stuff." Since Eli is over 2.5 the amount of clothes I have stuffed into closets is crazy! It seems like when there were a bunch of clothes that were too small Id stuff them into a plastic bag, or laundry basket, put it into a closet and forget about it. Well, once you have a closet stuffed full of stuff it sure looks like a mess, and really doesn't work. So, I bought a whole bunch of rubbermaid tote bins, and sorted through everything! All the clothes, cloth diapers, blankets, etc that have piled up. I sorted into sizes, labelled the bins and its all sorted!
However, I've really got the ball rolling... I cant stop organizing and sorting through stuff. I went through all of Eli's toys and got rid of a huge bag, we organized the basement in hopes to put new flooring down soon, and finish the dry walling. I have also gone through the spare room closet, and organized that, thrown out lots of stuff, and have started to do the same to our closet in our room, AND our bathroom. It feels incredible and looks even better! If at some point we decide to move down the road, it should be easy because Ive gotten rid of the junk, and everything is way more organized.
Andy and I worked really hard last week to organize our main floor. We ventured to ikea (a few times in one week actually!!) and bought some bins for my organizer, new light fixtures, new shower organizer, and a new t.v stand. Along with the new t.v stand we took down our wall mount and our huge tv that was waaaaay too big for our living room, and put our smaller TV downstairs. We organized the cords, and it works way better, and flows much nicer as well.
Investing the time & money into little things like new light fixtures gives a room such a new update for a good price. Ikea had really fair priced light fixtures, and we couldn't argue with the price, it was so worth it! Apparently, Eli loved going to Ikea last week and getting hotdogs for supper, then doing our shopping, because last night as we were sitting on the couch together he said to us, "Is it dark out?" I replied, "Yup, its dark out." He then said, "Ok. Go to kia (which means ikea!) get hot dogs, and play with trains? OK!!" It was pretty cute!!
So thats been our week, I still have more organizing to do, but once its done, and I can finish up a few more projects it'll be so worth it!
